Provisional Entry List 2023 WTA Elite Trophy: Maria Sakkari leads field of non qualifiers from WTA Finals

Maria Sakkari, Madison Keys and Petra Kvitova lead, momentarily the qualifiers for the WTA Elite Trophy.

As the WTA season enters its final weeks, there are few tournaments left to be played, and the eight qualifiers for the WTA Finals have already been determined.

Although Maria Sakkari had the opportunity to qualify with a strong performance in Beijing, she ultimately exited in the quarterfinals, and it's Marketa Vondrousova who secured the last spot for the event.

However, it is still to be determined which players will compete in the 2023 WTA Elite Trophy, a tournament that brings together the top 12 players who did not qualify for the WTA Finals. Eleven of them qualify based on their performance during the calendar year, and the final spot is awarded by invitation from the organization.

To calculate the points earned, the best 16 tournaments of each player are considered, including the obligation to include the four Grand Slam events and the five WTA 1000 Mandatory tournaments (Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome, Beijing).

This event is played in a group format, with four groups of three players competing against each other. Only the top player from each group advances to the semifinals, which are played in a single-elimination format, and the winner proceeds to the final.

At the moment, Sakkari leads the list with several high-level players, including three former Grand Slam champions in Petra Kvitova, Jelena Ostapenko, and Barbora Krejcikova, as well as the 2022 Finals champion Caroline Garcia, who fell far short of repeating her participation in that tournament.

Below is a list of the players who have qualified for the tournament so far, as well as the main alternates in case any of the qualifiers cannot participate.
