Last year's finalists Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez will suffer significant drops in the rankings on Monday due to their poor performance this year.
Both Raducanu and Fernandez lost early in the event and will lose all of the points they earned during their superb run in Flushing Meadows last year. Raducanu and Fernandez both disappointed with the performances but Emma was more accepting of it admitting that she's going to embrace whatever comes after.
It will a hard road for the Brit who will drop 72 spots on the rankings and landing on number 83. That's well out of range for WTA 1000 events and even some lesser events will be tricky to get into. She said she is ready to prove herself and restart from scratch and now she'll have to chance to back that up.
The drop for Fernandez is less drastic as she is only going to fall 26 spots to number 40. That's fairly solid for her and considering the time she missed with injury, it's not too bad. She certainly proved herself more than Raducanu over the last couple of years.
