Emma Raducanu took down an in-form
Caroline Garcia in a superb match at
Indian Wells to move on at the event 6-1 3-6 6-1.
Emma Raducanu arrived in American after a very bad outing in Mexico that saw her retire with injury concerns. Her opponent Garcia arrived in Indian Wells in great form after some strong showings in Lyon. It promised to be a very close affair but at the start, it was anything but close. Raducanu was simply too good for Garcia.
Neither player played with a lot of variety in their game and both looked to end the points quickly. Raducanu was hitting better angles early despite Garcia hitting a bit harder. It worked for the Brit as she won the opening set with 6-1. It was just not consistent enough from Garcia who did find some consistency after losing her serve at the start of the 2nd set.
She was able to take the break back and even take the lead from Raducanu. The Brit pulled the break back but Garcia once again went ahead and finished off the 2nd set with 6-3. The seriousness of the situation forced Raducanu to up her focus and it worked as she jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the 3rd set. She continued playing well and finished it off with 6-1.
