Britain’s young tennis star
Emma Raducanu has once again
received criticism from tennis fans on social media.
The 20-year-old has been on the sidelines for a long time after
struggling with fitness concerns.
Raducanu, while talking to the BBC recently, stated that she
does not care about the critics and that she is looking to return to court next
year.
“Next season I’ll be back,” she said. “The fact they are
still talking about me even though I'm not at these events is just a
compliment. Someone told me 'worry when they are not talking about you.’”
Those comments did not go down well with the fans on the
social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — who compared to the former
Russia’s tennis star Anna Kournikova.
Raducanu broke onto the scene in 2021 where she won the US
Open after beating Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in the final with a score of 6-4,
6-3.
That victory was an even more special one as Raducanu
started the competition through a qualifier.
However, since then, the Toroto-born has not been able to
keep the momentum going, largely because of struggles with injuries.
It is because of this reason that Raducanu did not play in three
out of the four Grand Slams. She only took part in the Australian Open where
she was knocked out in the second round after losing to America’s Coco Gauff with
a score of 6-3, 7-6.
