Taylor Fritz and his girlfriend Morgan Riddle found themselves locked out of their own hotel room in a bizarre incident in Vancouver, Canada, where Fritz is competing at the Laver Cup.

World No. 8 Fritz is currently heading up Team World in their annual battle with Team Europe at the indoor hard-court tournament featuring some of the world's top ATP players.

Their team is captained by seven-time Grand Slam singles champion John McEnroe and features Fritz along with three other American players - Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, and Tommy Paul. Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime and Argentinian player Francisco Cerundolo are also on the team.

Fritz and Riddle locked out of hotel room after battery dies

Fritz is accompanied at the Laver Cup by his girlfriend and social media influencer Riddle, who has been sharing behind-the-scenes clips of the tournament and of the couple's experience in Vancouver with her fans.

This included one post of Fritz in the hotel corridor after they were locked out of their room when the battery unexpectedly died. Riddle shared the bizarre incident on her Instagram Story with the caption:

"Learned this morning that the battery on your hotel door can die."

Fritz and Riddle have often traveled to tournaments together since they began dating in 2020. They met on the dating app Raya.

Fritz prepares to face Team Europe

When he's not being locked out of his room, Fritz has been preparing to face Team Europe, captained by Swedish former player Bjorn Borg.

The opposing team is made up of World No. 6 Andrey Rublev and No. 9 Casper Ruud, as well as Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Hubert Hurkacz, Gael Monfils, and Arthur Fils.

Last year's event in London was the final tournament played by tennis legend Roger Federer before he retired. It was an emotional farewell with a fair amount of tears, with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray in attendance. Federer will be back this year as a special guest at the tournament and will do the coin toss for the final match of the day on Friday, September 22.
