Raducanu is one of the nominated athletes for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award but the British player won't be attending the ceremony after testing positive for COVID-19. The positive test comes at a very bad time for Raducanu as she was in the middle of preparing for the upcoming 2022 season. She was set to travel to the Persian Gulf in order to play at the Mubadala World Tennis Championships but that won't happen either.
Raducanu is focused on recovering as soon as she can in order to return to training ahead of the 2022 season. The Mubadala tennis event announced the news on their official social media page writing:
“Emma is now isolating and following all necessary protocols. We wish her a quick recovery and hope to see her back on the court soon."
Raducanu herself said in statemenet:
"I was very much looking forward to playing in front of the fans here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately after testing positive for COVID-19, I will have to postpone until the next opportunity. I’m isolating as per rules and hopefully will be able to get back soon."
