The Roland Garros 2020 is wrapping up on Saturday for the WTA with Iga Swiatek playing Sofia Kenin in a final that will see someone win their first French Open title.
After a long two weeks, the Roland Garros is coming to an end with the final which will see Iga Swiatek face off against Sofia Kenin. The Polish player has had a spectacular run at the French Open, one of the more impressive runs in these past years that saw her defeat a lot of big names en route to the final. The fairytale run saw her win six matches without dropping a set in either of those matches. Not only did she not drop a set she didn't even come close to dropping a set smashing the likes of Simona Halep in the process.
Her opponent Kenin has had a totally different path en route to the final. She played more sets, more minutes and generally had quite a bit of roller coaster ride towards the final. Out of the six matches she played, only two went in straight sets including the one in the previous round against Kvitova. Some matches saw her display a lot of emotions especially comeback victories like the one against Ferro. Her tennis level has been good when she is focused but lapses in focus have plagued her so far.
When it comes to H2H Swiatek leads 1-0 but that match can hardly count for anything as they were both juniors when it happened in 2016. As fate would have it, it was actually played on the red clay of Paris so there is some symbolism about this final. The bookmakers favour Swiatek quite heavily in this one but Kenin is not left without a chance. Nobody gave her many chances in Australian earlier this year and she surprised everyone.
She is a Grand Slam champion and that experience counts to something. Whether nerves will play a role in this match is debatable but Swiatek hasn't shown any so far which she accredits to her work with a sports psychologist. The match will start at 15:00 CET and report will be waiting for you here so don't go far.
