Australian Open champion
Aryna Sabalenka secured her spot in the third round of the 2023
Miami Open on Friday night, defeating
Shelby Rogers in straight sets.
The second seed pulled off a 6-4 6-3 victory, as her American opponent struggled to neutralize the big-hitting Belarusian's power. With her history of serve issues apparently behind her, Sabalenka won an astounding 91% of points behind her first serve in the opening set as she dominated play from the start.
The second set appeared to be more even as both players exchanged breaks, but it was Sabalenka who maintained her aggression to obtain the second and crucial break. This was enough for her to close out the match, sealing her victory after an hour and 20 minutes.
Awaiting Sabalenka in the third round is Marie Bouzkova, with the Czech star securing her berth earlier in the day.
