Maria Sakkari secured a great win over Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3 6-2 while
Bianca Andreescu took down Parrizas Diaz 6-3 7-6(4).
A couple of great players advanced at the Rome Masters today with Maria Sakkari and Bianca Andreescu moving on. Sakkari had a bad showing in Madrid crashing out against Kasatkina with a matchup against Madrid semifinalist Alexandrova a tricky proposition. The Greek player was superb showcasing that these conditions work her for much better than Madrid.
Alexandrova struggled to break through the defence of Sakkari who moved well and had a counter to anything the Russian tried. Overall it was a solid straight sets win for the Greek who is in need of some wins to build up her confidence.
Joining her in the next round is Bianca Andreescu who is having a very good week in Rome. Being healthy and focused on tennis is doing wonders for Andreescu who had a pretty solid level in Madrid as well. She benefited from a Raducanu retirement in round one and got lucky loser Parrizas Diaz in round two. She proved too strong in the opening set taking it 6-3 with a fiercer battle ensuing in the 2nd. Andreescu still won it 7-4 to move on.
