Iga Swiatek won the Rome Masters last year with a 6-0 6-0 win over Pliskvoa in the final and in her first match in the Italian Capital since then she proved equally convincing.
Elena Ruse is a very solid player who doesn't know how to play anything but aggressive tennis but against Swiatek, none of that mattered. The Polish player skipped over Madrid due to some shoulder issues and in her first-round match in Rome, she proved very strong. The start of the match saw Swiatek jump out to an early 3-0 lead simply by overpowering her opponent.
Towards the end of the set, Swiatek started playing a bit wobbly losing her serve twice when she was close to finishing off the opening set. It didn't matter much because she was able to break Ruse twice as well finishing off the set with 6-3. The 2nd set is when Swiatek finally settled into a strong rhythm taking the ball early and blasting a lot of winners.
Ruse could not do anything to keep up and the Polish player stormed to a 6-0 2nd set finish. A good opening match that lasted 69 minutes and saw her dominate on her first serve while playing a bit wobbly on the 2nd. Ruse did attack her on every 2nd serve so there is that as well.
