Coco Gauff and Victoria Azarenka continued to cruise in Rome with victories over Brengle and Osorio Serrano in straight sets 6-2 6-4.
Victoria Azarenka was the first on the court and she took more time to down the Colombian Osorio Serrano but that's natural because she is a very good clay player. The only downside for Maria Camila was her long layoff as this was only her 2nd match in a month. Obviously, Azarenka as an experienced player knew how to counter that.
She's a counter puncher and that ability gave her the upper hand over her opponent most of the time. She finished off the job with 6-2 6-4 and that's a good thing for Azarenka who has had success in the past few years in Rome. Joining her in the next round will be Coco Gauff who took care of compatriot Madison Brengle. The older Brengle is a classical defensive player who rarely attacks and mostly waits for errors.
That generally does not go well against a player like Gauff who is super quick and can get any ball back. Expectedly Gauff was able to take control of the match pretty early. The score was identical to the Azarenka match as she too cruised 6-2 6-4.
