Aryna Sabalenka continues to lead the way in the
WTA Rankings in the latest update while there have been rises due to demises as
Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina have benefited. While
Lois Boisson triumphed in Hamburg.
Sabalenka sits on 12,420 points in the latest WTA Rankings which have been released on Monday 21 July. She is followed by Coco Gauff who is on 7,769. Iga Swiatek sits on 6,813 points after winning at Wimbledon.
This ahead of Jessica Pegula, Mirra Andreeva, Zheng Qinwen, Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, Jasmine Paolini and Paula Badosa. The changes come outside of the top 10 this week with Washington and Canada being the next time that any of the big names are involved.
Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro among others play in Washington then it is the mandatory WTA 1000 which currently unlike the men's edition features only Aryna Sabalenka, Paula Badosa and Zheng Qinwen withdrawing. So Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Iga Swiatek among others are set to play.
This in turn means that likely next week there will be further updates. Elena Rybakina though will play this week and sits in World No.11 as she aims to continue her resurgence up the top 10.
The former Wimbledon champion sits in World No.12 up one spot with Elina Svitolina also rising up one to World No.13. This is mainly due to Karolina Muchova going down two spots this past week. She is part of a cluster of players just outside the top 10 that have to be alarmed.
Elena Rybakina took advantage with Muchova and Shnaider now in trouble.
She is defending a semi-final from last year at the US Open and is known to be considering wrist surgery after poor recent form so could be another battle very soon to remain in the higher echelons.
The same can be said for Diana Shnaider who fell with Ekaterina Alexandrova and Liudmila Samsonova taking advantage to move up. She is now World No.17 after being on the cusp of the top 10 to start the year.
She had an incredible end to 2024 and so will defend huge runs and titles for a player who has not had much of that in 2025.
Yastremska and Boisson rise, Osaka and Eala fall
Further down,
Dayana Yastremska and Lois Boisson are two players firmly on the rise in comparison. The former reached the semi-finals of the Hamburg Open and rose six spots to World No.33. While the champion was Boisson who had her incredible French Open run and has backed it up.
She reached the semi-finals in Paris and then slumped out of Wimbledon qualifying. But she is not a grass court specialist and barely played on the surface so it was to be expected. She is up 19 spots to become World No.44 this week.
Lois Boisson thrived this week.
A player who has been touted in the past and was only really known until her Paris run for the Harriet Dart deodorant run-in, Boisson has excelled and will be interesting to see how she does on hard courts given she now won't have as many problems qualifying for tournaments.
Naomi Osaka further down has slumped out of the top 50 and she will aim to reverse her fortunes at the DC Open this week. While Alexandra Eala also falls down 13 spots to World No.69. So neither had great weeks.
Irina-Camelia Begu in a real blast from the past rose though as she went up 28 spots to World No.82 after winning the Iasi Open in Romania. This week mainly sees the Prague Open and the DC Open Washington with the latter featuring top names. Then it is onto Canada and Cincinnati before Flushing Meadows so plenty of time to turn around or diminish fortunes coming up.
