Maria Sakkari is the latest name to officially withdraw from the bett1 Open Berlin which will run from June 14th till June 20th.
The bett1 Open in Berlin is WTA 500 event played on grass which serves as one of the main events in preparation for Wimbledon which will start at the end of June. The event will run from June 14th till June 20th and initially it was slated to have a very strong field with several players from the top 10 attending.
However, things are looking rather disappointing for the tournament organizers as many players have already withdrawn from the event. That list now includes Maria Sakkari who lost in the French Open semifinals yesterday and will look to take a break before jumping right back into action.
It started with Barty who withdrew due to injury and Osaka who withdrew because of her mental struggles as of late. Brady followed as well after sustaining an injury as well as did Kenin and Swiatek.
Even with all the withdrawals, the event will feature a solid field headlined by world number 4 Aryna Sabalenka. Besides her we will see Svitolina, Andreescu, Pliskova, Bencic, Kvitova and Muguruza.
