Greek tennis star
Maria Sakkari made it a clean sweep in the group stage at the
WTA Finals, cruising past
Ons Jabeur to remain undefeated behind a superb performance on Friday night.
Sakkari needed just 68 minutes to get past Jabeur, recording an emphatic 6-2 6-3 victory in front of the animated crowd. Despite being broken in the opening set, Sakkari maintained her focus, obtaining a pair of breaks herself to stun the World No.2 and take the first set.
The Greek star relied on her improved serve in the second set, winning 17 of 19 points behind her first serve. The 27-year old did not face a break point, capitalizing on her lone break point opportunity to put the match out of reach.
Following her victory, Sakkari confirms her place at the top of the Nancy Richey group. The World No.5 will face the winner between
Caroline Garcia and
Daria Kasatkina, both of whom are competing for the second semifinal spot out of the Tracy Austin group. Aryna Sabalenka will finish second behind Sakkari, and faces World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the other semifinal match.
