Sam Querrey and Danielle Collins dominated at the 2019 Hawaii Open when they lifted the trophy in men's and women's singles.
However, Querrey had a much more difficult journey. Angelique Kerber got injured during her warm-up for the match and therefore she could not play the final. So it was enough for Collins to defeat Wickmayer in the semifinal to become the winner.
Querrey first survived a 3-set match
against Jordan Thompson where he lost the first set. And in the final, he has defeated Brandon Nakashima in the longest match at the tournament. Querrey won the first set 6-4, but the score was leveled again after the second set tie-break. The super tie-break in the third set saw many changes of the lead when Querrey led already 6-3. But also Nakashima had an 8-7 or 9-8 lead when he had a match point. But he did not convert it and Querrey won the super tie-break 13-11 to win the title in Hawaii.
Because Kerber pulled out of the tournament, people responsible for the organization of the tournament decided that they will add one more match in mixed doubles. Danielle Collins & Christian Harrison faced Yanina Wickmayer & Sam Querrey. It was a thrilling 3-set contest where the American duo defeated Wickmayer & Querrey 6-4, 6-7 and 10-6.
