Former hitting partner of Serena Williams, Sascha Bajin admitted that he was disappointed to see that Williams hasn't come back to try and win one more grand slam.
During her retirement tour, Williams often hinted at not completely walking out on tennis and many believed her. Right now it doesn't seem like she will come back as her focus is totally on things away from tennis and it's left her former hitting partner a bit disappointed. Bajin has been in tennis for a while and he wished to see Serena try to get number 24:
"Yeah, so I even tweeted about it because I didn’t say you know, like I wasn’t one of those guys who then said, you know, like, ‘bye bye queen’ and all this stuff. I didn’t post anything on my socials because, from her interview, she kind of left the door a little bit open. Like what she said was like, ‘I don’t see it as a retirement’ and then all of a sudden, she was like, ‘yeah, you know, I didn’t retire’."
He added:
"So I kind of thought, maybe I was just hoping you know, that she would come back somehow and just still try to get this one Slam or one tournament. But yeah, it’s sad obviously, you know, if the sport loses one of its greatest players to ever play the game for sure it’s sad."
And concluded with:
"But on the other hand, you know, if one great player leaves, you know, another great will rise and it makes the tour more exciting. And there is a generational change going on right now in a lot of sports. So this is something beautiful to witness and to be part of a new journey, but it was sad."
