Anett Kontaveit, the 2nd seed at Wimbledon this year was beaten by Jule Niemeier easily in the 2nd round of the event 6-4 6-0.
Kontaveit has not played well for quite some time now and despite that, she was able to reach a new career-high ranking of number two recently. She recently dropped back to number three but arrived at Wimbledon as the 2nd seed.
Everybody knew she was struggling with her level but this defeat just shows how poorly she has played lately. She also parted ways with coach Tursunov who guided her to the best stretch of her career and it's generally not going good for her.
Niemeier is a very tricky player who attacks repeatedly and today Kontaveit had no response. One break in the opening set was all the german needed to take the opening set 6-4. The Estonian player was simply misfiring too often committing 9 errors to only four winners. The 2nd set was even worse for Kontaveit as she committed 15 errors to only 3 winners in the 2nd set.
It was a bagel for the shocking exit from Wimbledon. She is 4-7 since reaching the Doha final ealier this year.
