In what has been one of the more unpredictable US Open tournaments in recent history, British qualifier Emma Raducanu dominated Maria Sakkari to reach her first Grand Slam final.
The 18-year secured an easy 6-1 6-4 win over the 17th seed, requiring just 83 minutes to book her spot in Saturday's final. Raducanu took control from the start, breaking Sakkari and racing to a 5-0 lead before her Greek opponent was able to salvage a game. This was all in vain as the teenager served for the first set, claiming it to rapturous applause from the crowd.
Sakkari looked more comfortable in the second set, but soon found herself down a break as her teenage opponent was relentless from the baseline. The World No.18 was unable to capitalize on any of her seven break point opportunities, as nerves and Raducanu's impeccable play led to her committing 33 unforced errors. Despite holding and forcing her opponent to serve for the match. Sakkari was unable to prevent the inevitable as the British sensation served out the match to advance to her maiden Grand Slam final.
Raducanu, ranked 150th in the world, will face another teenager on Saturday as 19-year old Canadian Leylah Fernandez upset World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka to reach her first Major final.
