Former World No.5 Daniela Hantuchova received some backlash from fans following her controversial comments regarding WTA players and their fight for receiving equal pay as their ATP counterparts.
The retired Slovakian raised eyebrows when she claimed today's female players were being "spoiled" by asking for more prize money. Furthermore, she would compare having a tennis career to working in a mine, saying the athletes had little reason to complain about their prize money.

Fans fire back, bringing up the impact of tennis greats on the sport

"It feels a bit like spoiling," said Hantuchova in a recent interview. "Especially on the women's circuit, where the prize money is what it is, and the girls certainly don't work from four in the morning in a mine somewhere."
Tennis fans were angered by her statements, with some wondering why she did not speak about the impact tennis legends like Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Billie Jean King had on the game.
"No one hates women as much as women do sometimes sigh," one fan wrote.
"So you’re telling me Steffi, Chrissie/Martina, Billie, Monica, Serena, Venus etc had no impact on “‘making tennis bigger”. especially those last two?" another fan tweeted.
"Serena and Venus did way more that 99% of ATP players NEXT!!!!" stated another fan.
"Also she literally said that wta players “aren’t working in mine” and that they should stop complaining. You can see she’s really just pretty girl without brain," wrote an upset fan.
