Serena Williams resumed her quest for a 24th Grand Slam trophy on Wednesday, as the American made short work of her opponent to advance to the third round at the 2021 Australian Open.
Facing Serbian Nina Stojanovic, Williams never took her foot off the gas as she blitzed her opponent with a flurry of powerful groundstrokes and precise volleys to triumph with a commanding 6-3 6-0 victory.
The World No.11 hit six aces, winning 24 out of 28 points on her first serve. Furthermore, she showed aggression in her return service games, applying pressure to her opponent and breaking her on four occasions. With 27 winners to only 11 unforced errors, the seven-time Australian Open champion required just over an hour to secure her spot in the third round.
Awaiting Williams is Russian Anastasia Potapova, who defeated Hungarian qualifier Timea Babos in straight sets. The pair met in the first round of last year's event, with the American prevailing in a 6-0 6-3 victory.
