The first award went to the player from the Fed Cup Qualifiers. 16 countries fought in 8 qualifying matchups and almost 17 000 fans chose a player to win the Heart Award. They chose Anastasija Sevastova for her great performance against Serena Williams.
The Latvian also received a $3,000 cheque which she could have donated to the charity of her choice. “I'm very honoured to be included in the Fed Cup Heart Award this year. It's a great achievement and privilege.” The cheque will go to the Latvian food bank - Paedusai Latvijai.
Another 3 winners were from Euro/Africa, Asia/Oceania and America group. In the Euro/Africa group, fans voted for Anett Kontaveit. In Asia/Oceania, Sania Mirza took the prize and Fernanda Contreras Gomez triumphed in America group.
“It’s an honour to win the Fed Cup Heart Award as the first Indian,” said Mirza. “I dedicate this award to the entire country and to all my fans and thank everyone for voting for me, I hope to bring more laurels to the country in the future. I want to donate the money that I get from this award to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as the world is going through very difficult times with the virus.”
"Thank you! I am really grateful to everyone who took their time to vote for me," Kontaveit said. "Representing my country has always been important and special to me! It was really difficult to decide between different organisations, because there are so many who need help in this time."
