Amarissa Kiara Toth has spoken out for the first time since the Shuai Zhang incident which dominated the tennis world to start the week after Wimbledon.
Toth won due to a walkover against the Chinese ace at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest but courted major criticism after erasing the mark and celebrating as Zhang left the court having had a panic attack.
Daria Kasatkina, Victoria Azarenka, Ajla Tomljanovic and Caroline Garcia are among those who spoke out in support of the Chinese player who has dealt heavily with mental health issues in recent months.
But Toth herself did not help herself with a statement post match saying that she didn't understand why a fuss was made and that she made trouble for herself.
This will likely inflame the tennis community more in an incident already where she isn't being painted in the best light.
"I didn’t understand why she made such a fuss out of it, that she wanted to overrule the judge’s decision. I don’t understand why she didn’t accept it, but she made trouble for herself."
