"She really values being a great person and has great morals": Shelby Rogers full of praise for Gauff both on and off the court

America’s Shelby Rogers believes one of the reasons behind
the success of tennis star Coco Gauff is her ability to grow, both on and off
the court.
The 19-year-old lived up to the hype and expectations after
winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open 2023 by beating the current
world number one Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the final with a score of 2-6,
6-3, 6-2.
Rogers was quoted in a report recently where she heaped
praise on the young American sensation and believes that her recent success is
down to how she has improved, both on and off the court.
"Oh it's awesome and just to see how she's just grown
and matured as a person as well off the court," said the 30-year-old. "Like
not only her tennis game is just there's so much room for improvement there.
“But her as a person is just really inspiring too because
she really values being a great person and has great morals," she
continued. "And just, you know, she has a very charismatic personality and
she seems to be handling everything really well."
Gauff’s victory in the US Open came on the back of an
impressive run after Wimbledon where she was knocked out of the competition from the first round after losing to Sofia Kenin with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Since that result, Gauff went on to win the Citi Open by
beating Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
She later went on to clinch the Cincinnati Open (Western
& Southern Open) by beating Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in the final with
a score of 6-3, 6-4.
In between that, Gauff was on the losing side in the National
Bank Canadian Open in the quarterfinal against fellow American Jessica Pegula
who came out on top with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.

- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make.
