Mats Wilander previewed the 2021 US Open and he thinks the win of Emma Raducanu made it much harder to win grand slams now.
Emma Raducanu surprised many by winning the 2021 US Open and it created quite a bit of chaos in the world of tennis. According to Mats Wilander, it opened a can of worms because so many different players believe they can win a grand slam now and that wasn't the case a few years ago:
"I think that by her winning, she's opened up a can of worms. It used to be maybe five to 10 players that literally believe they could win (a Slam). And I think now you've got 50 players that think they can win it because of what Emma did and that makes it much harder."

Nobody realistically expects Raducanu to defend her US Open trophy and her ranking will certainly take a pretty big hit if she doesn't. She spoke at length about it leading up to the event and she was fine with it. At times it seemed like she would be relieved about it as it would allow her to start over.
