Tunisia’s tennis star
Ons Jabeur has announced that her 2024
season has come to an end because of a shoulder injury. The 30-year-old has had
a difficult time on the court in the recent past and things have gone from bad
to worse.
Jabeur, in a post on her official account on the social
media platform Instagram, announced that her 2024 season had been concluded because
of a shoulder injury. “This year has been extremely hard for me,” she wrote. “As
athletes, we know that recovery is part of the journey. Due to my ongoing
shoulder injury, my medical team and I’ve made the difficult decision to step
off the tennis circuit for the rest of the season.
She continued by writing: “While I am taking time to heal, I’ll
be dedicating myself to charity work and ensuring that we make a real
difference in the world. Thank you for all your support, and I can’t wait to
come back stronger.”
Jabeur has gone through a difficult campaign. She played in three out of four Grand Slams and only managed to qualify for the quarterfinal or beyond just one. Her best appearance came at the French Open, where she lost in the last eight to America’s young tennis sensation Coco Gauff with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. She decided to withdraw from the recently
concluded US Open as well.
Her last appearance this year was in the Canadian Open, where
she was knocked out after losing in the round of 64 to Japan’s Naomi Osaka in straight
sets with a score of 6-3, 6-1. With the announcement, Jabeur will finish her
season without a single title. She could not play in the final or
semifinal of any event this season. She qualified for the quarterfinal of an
event five times in 2024, and on each occasion, she ended on the losing side.
