Simona Halep played another superb match to take down Amanda Anisimova 6-2 6-4 for the Wimbledon semifinal.
Halep won the last edition of Wimbledon she played and she's certainly proving capable of doing it again. It was Amanda Anisimova who was the latest victim losing fairly easily 6-2 6-2. The American player really tried in this one but she produced an effort that was not enough against such a brilliant Halep. The Romanian moved Anisimova around the court forcing her to defend and it worked.
The American was late in many rallies and finished them off with a mistake by slamming the ball wide. At times she would hit some winners but overall it was simply not good enough. Fairly similar to their clash in Bad Homburg on grass recently where Halep also smashed her in two sets.
Halep didn't even need to do that much in being aggressive. She just needed to move Anisimov around with precise and consistent groundstrokes and eventually, the American would slam the ball wide. She faced no issues in doing that until late in the match when she dropped her serve in the game she served for the match.
Anisimova had 40-0 love on Halep's serve at 5-4 with the Romanian nearly throwing it away. She survived to hold on and win the match 6-2 6-4.
