For the 2nd year in a row Ajla Tomljanovic is out in the Wimbledon quarterfinals with Elena Rybaking being better 4-6 6-2 6-3.
Tomljanovic opened the match well but she was unable to sustain the high level against Rybakina who found another gear. The player from Kazakhstan is a natural fit on grass because of her hard-hitting game that is centred around her strong serve. Rybakina blasted 15 aces in this one hitting only one double fault and that's why she won.
She was able to win many free points thanks to her serve particularly as the match went on and Tomljanovic dropped in level. The opening set was very clean by the Australian who had 9 winners and only 3 errors. Rybakina was okay with 10 and 10 but that was simply not good enough. She improved her level a little bit in the 2nd set as Tomljanovic dropped off a cliff.
The Aussie player totally flipped the script having only two winners and 9 errors. It was 6-2 for Rybakina and she kept up her high level in the 2nd set. She was up 5-1 and served for the match at that score but dropped her serve in the last rallying effort from Tomljanovic. She did finish it off with 6-3 with several strong serves. It's a maiden Wimbledon semifinal for Rybakina who is looking pretty strong.
