Simona Halep finally got a trophy as the Romanian capped off a tremendous week in Toronto with a great final against
Beatriz Haddad Maia that ended in her favour 6-3 2-6 6-2.
As expected it was a really big battle between the players as Haddad Maia proved herself as a very tough out like many times earlier this year. The Brazilian actually opened the match better than Help simply due to being more sturdier from the backline. Halep was always going to attack but those attacks sailed wide early on.
However, she did find a good rhythm after that. And it was a brutally good one. Turning that 0-3 deficit into a 3-3 score, Halep continued applying heavy pressure on Maia and the Brazilian could not handle it. She faltered losing the opening set 3-6. Most of the damage Halep did was on the 2nd serve of Maia which was very vulnerable.
She fixed it in the next set but it was a superb set of tennis by the Brazilian, probably one of the best she played this week. Halep wasn't as sharp but she wasn't that much worse either. It was simply a strong set by Maia who took it 6-2.
The final set was a good one but it featured too strong of a play from Halep. The Romanian was determined to finish off what she started and she did by closing it out with 6-3. The win returns Halep back into the top 10.
