Simona Halep named a familiar name as her new coach with Adrian Marcu resuming the role he held until 2013.
Simona Halep has a new coach as she reunites with Adrian Marcu once again. The Romanian coach guided Halep until 2013 with them reuniting in order to write a new chapter of Haleps career. Her coach spoke about what he is looking for from the relationships highlighting his high expectations for Halep:
“I have expectations for her to play as well as possible in the next period and to return to very good form. I want her to win as many matches as possible,
so that she can return to the [top of the] standings. The basic idea is
to play the big competitions very well.”
Halep has seen a decline in results in the past two years with the Romanian having a very underwhelming 2021 mainly due to a lower leg injury which prevented her from playing during the summer. Marcu has also new ideas when it comes to her playstyle admitting he would like to see a more aggressive approach.
He said:
“I would like to see [Halep] play a little more aggressively, as she is a speed player and a player who can finish points faster than she has played lately. I am firmly convinced that she can play more aggressively and impose her game, not wait [for her] opponents.”
For now, Halep is scheduled to play 3 more events in 2021 with the Indian Wells being the first one. Besides that one, she will play at the VTB Kremlin Cup in Moscow as well as the Transylvania Open back home in Romania.
