Dayana Yastremska is back to playing tennis but she is out of the WTA event in Portoroz after a back injury forced her to retire from the match. The match was a mad one that saw countless of twists and turns. Both players had a very hard time holding onto their serves and Yastremska finished most of hte points with either a winner or an error. She took an early 2-0 lead and it seemed like she was in control of the match.
Paolini pulled it back to 2-2 before the Ukrainian took the lead once again 4-2. She even added another break taking a 5-2 lead and serving for the set. She failed to close it out and Paolini made it 5-4. She served once again for the match but again failed to close it out making it 5-5. Paolini then lost her serve to give Yastremska a 3rd chance to close out the set on her own serve.
She failed once again and Paolini was finally able to close out the match with 7-5 in the tiebreak. Yastremska's meltdown continued early in the 2nd set as she immediately lost her serve. She pulled it back to make it 1-1 but lost it once more to give Paolini the 2-1 lead. The Italian made it 3-1 before breaking Yastremska one again to make it 4-1.
The Ukrainian called a MTO due to an apparent back injury and after the timeout, she played a couple of more points before retiring from the match. Another match with sketchy behaviour from Yastremska when the match was out of reach and that won't help with her already tarnished reputation on the tour.
