After taking time off due to injuries, Sofia Kenin is set to return to the courts at the Tennis In The Land Cleveland event this summer.
The 2020 Australian Open champion has had a subpar season, losing five consecutive first-round matches after a quarterfinal run at Adelaide in January. Kenin would get injured in March, before pulling herself out of all competition, including the French Open and Wimbledon.
With her ranking dropping outside the Top 300, the American seems ready to return as it was announced she would be competing at the Tennis In The Land tournament, a WTA 250 event that runs from August 21-27, 2022. The official Instagram page for the event posted the following statement:
"Sofia Kenin is headed to The Land this August to compete for the Tennis in the Land presented by Motorola edge title! After winning the 2020 Australian Open and being the 2020 Roland Garros finalist, Kenin was awarded 2020 WTA Player of the Year. With a #4 career-high rank, we can’t wait to watch her compete in Cleveland."
With the US Open set to begin a week later, Kenin is hoping to use the event as a warm-up for the final Grand Slam of the season.
