Sorana Cirstea is keeping her dream run at the Miami Open going with the Romanian beating
Aryna Sabalenka in two sets 6-4 6-4 to move on to the semi-finals.
This is a very surprising result even if Cirstea had been playing amazingly from the start of the event. Sabalenka has been dealing with a groin injury throughout the event and even so, it's still a surprising result. Cirstea was simply amazing in the first set. There is no way to describe it as she withstood everything Sabalenka had to offer.
She broke Sabalenka early in the match and then held her serve for a while before finally losing it. Didn't matter much as she quickly broke again to take the set 6-4. She serve well all set long and played really strong from the baseline which she needed to do if she wanted to win this match.
The second set was quite similar. Once again it was Cirstea who jumped out to an early lead but later on Sabalenka would find a way back in it. Cristea would break once more but face break points in the final game of the match as she was down 15-40. Even so, she remained calm and finished off the match 6-4.
She hit only 49 % of her first serves but still produced 7 aces which were all important. She created havoc on the serve of Sabalenka winning over 50 % of those points though she was helped by the Belarusian who had 6 double faults. Superb win.
