Carla Suarez Navarro is fighting a cancer for quite some time already, and now the experienced Spaniard revealed, that she would love to end her career at the Olympics in Tokyo.
Suarez Navarro played her last match in February of this years in Doha. Then, she revealed that she's fighting a cancer. It seems that she's doing well as she already resumed practicing and wants to compete at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.
“I feel quite well. When I have to go through chemotherapy, I feel some pain but it’s bearable. I am relieved. My daily life is calm. When I undergo treatment I spend some days at home or go for a walk. I can do a normal life, but I have to be careful. Following the medical advice and taking steps with hope and optimism. Many thanks for the warm messages during the past days,” said Suarez Navarro.
“I watched the US Open when I was at the hospital. I followed many matches. I appreciated that Garbine Muguruza dedicated her first-round win to me. She is a very good friend. I have good respect for her. I also watched the French Open and the ATP Finals in London,” said Suarez Navarro.
"I want to end my career on a tennis court. I would dream to take part in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. I have to consider my situation day after day. I am trying to recover. I have a protected ranking. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I want to send a message of hope and optimism. I have to continue fighting. It’s a difficult path but I will be able to recover with a positive attitude.”
