The first two seeded players are showing dominant performances in Monterrey. Elina Svitolina did not a set at Abierto Seguro this year and Johanna Konta is also showing stunning performances.
The two aforementioned players are most likely to also set up a final clash in Monterrey, however, there are 2 players that will attempt to stop this from happening.
The first one is Marie Buzkova from the Czech Republic. The young Czech defeated Yafan Wang in the quarterfinals; winning 6-2 and 7-5. And it will be the first-seeded, dominant Elina Svitolina who she will be facing in the next round. The Ukrainian outplayed also young Canadian Fernandez who was playing in a very good form in Mexico. Svitolina advanced to the semifinals after winning 6-4, 7-5.
Arantxa Rus got the easiest way to the semifinals in Monterrey. The Dutch players first played a lucky-looser Varvara Flink who had to pull out of the match after just 35 minutes. Then, she defeated Lauren Davis 7-5, 6-0 in the second round. And now, Rus allowed Rebecca Peterson to win only 2 games and sent her home after winning 6-1, 6-1.
On the other hand, her upcoming semifinal opponent had much more work to do. Johanna Konta faced Anastasia Potapova and we've seen almost 3 hours of action at Abierto Seguros. The young Russian got the first set after winning the tie-break 8-6. However, Konta leveled the score after winning the second set 6-3 and forced a decisive tie-break in the third set. There, after facing 2 match points earlier, she converted her 3rd matchpoint to set up a semifinal clash with Rus.
