Day two at the Dubai Duty Free Championship already brought some surprises with Elina Svitolina crashing out early in the tournament.
Elina Svitolina had a really bad day at the office today. She was completely out of sync and lost to
Jennifer Brady in only 61 minutes. The final result was 6-2 6-1 and it was a shocking defeat for the Ukranian. She has been one of the better performers in
Dubai recently winning it twice (2017, 2018). She was terrible on her own serve making 5 double faults an only hitting 49 % of her 1st serves.
Her opponent was pretty good hitting 5 aces to only one double fault. She was clinical on her opponents 2nd serve winning 50 % of those points. The Ukranian had a very negative body language throughout and she clearly didn't want to play today and she lost deservedly.
Contrary to Svitolina Siniakova had a better display today. She defeated world number 27 Muchova who gave her all but it wasn't enough against Siniakova today. The match lasted almost two hours with the final result being 6-4 4-6 6-0 for Siniakova. She completely destroyed her opponent in the last set 6-0 to continue her great run which started in the qualifiers. She was simply better at key moments. Her serve was better and she took all her opportunities and she deservedly won.
One more match that went a bit under the radar was between Sasnovich and Mladenovic. They played often before with Sasnovich winning most of those matches. This time around it was Mladenovic who was better overall winning 6-4 6-3.
