Elina Svitolina overcame Govortsova to reach the Monterrey quarterfinal and after the match, she recapped her performance during her press conference.
Speaking to
the media after her Monterrey victory over Govortsova, she told them she felt great and how she was ready to play her quarterfinal match.
"Every match matters a lot. I try to prepare and be ready for anything that comes my way." She was pretty dominant on her own serve where she won 80 % of her 1st service points. Her opponent couldn't match her brilliance on her own serve which allowed Elina to be quite aggressive.
"I tried to be on my feet all the time and tried to move really quickly, so I think this was the key to stay focused on every point."
Her next opponent will be Fernandez who is on a tear despite being only 17. She spoke about that matchup as well:
"I know that [Fernandez is] starting to play well in 2020. She strikes the ball really good, and it’s important to be ready and to try to dominate. For me, it’s important just to focus on my game, really."
She is looking determined and much better here than she recently did. Her most recent tournament have been early-round exits so it's good for her to reach a quarterfinal to get back on track.
