Iga Swiatek was left confused by the suspension of Halep believing her to be someone who was a great example for many including herself.
There were very few people that weren't shocked when the news about Halep being suspended came down. The Romanian was known for her hardcore dedication to tennis that included surgeries early in her career as well as recently due to a deviated septum that did not allow her to breathe properly.
Her former coach also came out in support highlighting how dedicated she was to ensure that she doesn't take anything illegal, even by accident. For Swiatek, all of it was confusing:
“Well, for sure it was confusing to me because I wouldn’t expect hearing this news. Simona, from my point of view, seems like a person who always cared about being fair and she was a great example for me.
Swiatke then wondered about the procedure moving forward hoping for a resolution:
“I don’t know how it works in terms of the system ... Is she going to be tested a couple of more times or whatever? Hopefully it’s going to be more clear for fans and for us. But it’s disappointing and she must feel really bad. From my point of view, the most important thing for me is just taking care of myself, being safe always, making my environment more safe and being careful. So we’ll do that.”
