Swiatek responds to Sabalenka gunning for World Number One spot: "I'm really just focusing on myself, I don't care really"

Iga Swiatek isn't concerned by Aryna Sabalenka admitting that she is going for the number one rank saying she's focusing on herself and doesn't care.

Aryna Sabalenka recently admitted in Dubai that her goal is to get to the number one spot and replace Iga Swiatek as the best player in the world. It's nothing unusual as many players dream of that but the conviction in Sabalenka's voice when she said it made fans excited about the prospect of the two players battling it out.

Swiatek was made aware of the comments and she added some spice to the whole situation saying that she doesn't really care:

“I’m not really looking for what other players are doing. I know there’s also Ons, many players, that are kind of capable of winning tournaments, getting more and more points. For sure, Aryna is in a nice position after Australian Open. I’m really just focusing on myself. I don’t care really.”

Asked what she's focusing on, Swiatek said that it's mostly about improving. She doesn't measuer herself by results that much:

“They’re not really based on results. It’s more about how I want to approach the tournaments mentally, my attitude, and developing as a player because I feel I have many things to improve on court. Sometimes it’s not going to be visible by results or the way I play. I think I can have more options on court. These are my goals.”
