Iga Swiatek put on a masterful display on Thursday at the Adelaide International I, cruising past Us Open runner-up
Leylah Fernandez to book her place in the quarterfinals.
The 2020 French Open champion was firing on all cylinders, dispatching of Fernandez in a 6-1 6-2 victory. Although both ladies held serve to begin the match, Swiatek would go on to break her Canadian opponent, winning the next five games to close out the set.
The second set saw Fernandez attempt a comeback, but she was soon stifled by the Polish star. Swiatek obtained an early break, before racing to a 4-2 lead, during which she capitalized on her opponent's poor serving to clinch the match after just 74 minutes.
The World No.9 will look to keep her momentum going, as she faces the winner between Victoria Azarenka and Priscilla Hon in the next round.
