It started shakily but finished in an impressive fashion to send Iga Swiatek into the quarterfinal over Victoria Azarenka 6-4 6-1.
Victoria Azarenka entered this match with a great determination which was easy to spot by the way she played. Swiatek was taken aback by the level of intensity Azarenka brought falling back 0-3 early on. It seemed like the Belarussian will cruise but it did not happen. Eventually, Swiatek found her rhythm and started finding counters to what Azarenka was doing.
Swiatek made it 4-3 but Azarenka was still creating trouble for her. The problem for Azarenka was abysmal play on break points as she left many on the court. SHe converted only a 3rd of those she had but her opponent took the majority of she had. Swiatek added another one to make it 5-3 but she lost her serve in the next game making it 5-4.
Swiatek had four set points in that get but failed to close it out. She did not do that mistake in the next game breaking Azarenka for the 4th time in the opening set to take it 6-4. Only 10 games but 82 minutes took to finish the set. The 2nd set was when Swiatek completely took over despite losing her serve in the opening game. She won on to win the set 6-1 winning six games in a row.
