Bianca Andreescu beats Petra Martic 6-4, 6-4 to reach her first QF in a year, biggest since Miami 2021. Likely to be the most dangerous unseeded player in Paris, unless she wins Rome.
Bianca Andreescu produced another good match in Rome taking down Petra Martic in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to book the quarterfinal.
It was a very good display from Bianca Andreescu once more as the Canadian is slowly picking up steam after returning to the tour a few weeks ago. The last time Andreescu had a major comeback was in Miami last year when she reached the final out of nowhere. She picked up an injury in the final and it's been bad ever since. Perhaps a new run in Rome could spark better days.
It was a hard-fought match against Martic who is a superb clay player. Early on the Croatian was a bit sharper winning her service games with ease. Andreescu struggled a bit on hers and she even had to save a break point. Once she finally found her footing, Andreescu slowly took over taking a very late break to win the opening set with 6-4.
The 2nd set was a bit trickier for the Canadian. She was the first one to take a break early on in the set but Martic was able to battle back. For a moment, Martic looked much better than Andreescu and she missed a break point at 3-2 to go up 4-2. It proved costly as Andreesuc broke her in the next game to take a 5-3 lead and she would go on to hold it 6-4.
