Iga Swiatek started off her season with a comeback win before losing in the next round but talking to WTA Insider she expressed satisfaction with the start.
In the second round, Iga Swiatek played Juvan Kaja and while the opening set was a nightmare for her she rallied to win the match in the end 2-6 6-2 6-1. Speaking on that match she said:
"For sure at the beginning it was tough. I felt like I couldn't concentrate very well and my head was not in the right place."
Patience and belief in herself were key for Iga to turn things around and after the match, she was proud she was able to do it:
"I'm super happy that I was patient enough to change that and I didn't get angry. I think the worst is behind me because the first match is always tough. I'm looking forward to my next round and I'm kind of more peaceful."
One thing that was noticeable right away was the new racquet. After winning Roland Garros with a Prince racquet Swiatek switched to Technifibre explaining:
"I tested right after the French Open because my coach was talking to Technifibre even before the tournament, so I had a long time to get used to the racquet. It fits me really well and they have great technology so I didn't have a problem changing."
It was a curious thing to do but Iga felt the timing was right and she expressed her belief it will be fruitful:
"I had doubts if mentally I would think about the change, but I had so much time to prepare in my pre-season so it wasn't a problem. So I'm so happy I did it this year and I think it will be a good partnership."
