Iga Swiatek is through to the 4th round of the Australian Open following a decisive victory over
Daria Kasatkina 6-2 6-3.
Iga Swiatek is showing a very high level of confidence in her game so far in Melbourne and that was the case against Kasatkina as well. Not worrying too much about making mistakes, the Polish player is playing super aggressive tennis seeking out winners non-stop. It's a return to the playstyle that won her the French Open in 2020 and she credits that to her new coach.
Against Kasatkina it became apparent very early on that the Russian would not be able to handle it. The Polish player took an early lead thanks to some amazing shot-making and serving. Kasatakina tried to apply pressure but she could not return as well as she would have hoped. Swiatek added another break at 5-2 to close out the first set with 6-2.
The start of the 2nd set featured strong play by Iga once more as she took an early 2-0 lead. A very bad game made Swiatek give back the lead to Kasatkina as the Russian found some inspiration with a 2-2 score. It did not last long as the Polish player once again established control attacking the Russian repeatedly. She faltered and Swiatek cruised to a 6-3 2nd set finish.
