Tennis great, Chris Evert has been given the all clear and is cancer free almost exactly one year on from her initial Stage 1C Ovarian Cancer diagnosis.
Evert wrote a piece for ESPN on Tuesday about her sister's cancer journey and how it impacted her own experience. This meant that it was discovered early on with six chemotherapy treatments before she got the all clear.
She has also lent support recently to her close friend and fellow tennis legend, Martina Navratilova who was diagnosed with cancer but returned to work albeit remotely during the Australian Open.
“Today, I’m cancer free, and there’s a 90% chance that the ovarian cancer will never come back,” Evert said as per ESPN.
“Luckily, the report came back clean and clear, and my risk of developing breast cancer has been reduced by more than 90%."
“As relieved as I will be to get to the other side of this, I will always have a heavy heart,” Evert added. “I will never heal from losing Jeanne, and I will never take for granted the gift she gave me in the process. My sister’s journey saved my life, and I hope by sharing mine, I just might save somebody else’s.”
