Iga Swiatek had another effortless day, defeating Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska with an astonishing 6-0, 6-2 scoreline to reach the fourth round of Indian Wells. The two-time Tennis Paradise champion remains a strong favourite to defend the title she won in 2023.
The gap between Yastremska (No. 46) and Swiatek (No. 2) was massive, with the Pole executing a clear game plan. In their last encounter just three weeks ago, Yastremska had put up a fight in the opening set but ultimately failed to keep up, resulting in a 7-5, 6-0 victory for Swiatek.
From the outset, Yastremska’s struggles stemmed from her poor serving, landing just 37% of first serves and 43% of second serves. The slower court conditions compared to Dubai played into Swiatek’s hands, allowing her to dictate play with both her forehand and backhand.
Despite Yastremska’s serve being off, she did manage to make her first two service games competitive, saving multiple break points. However, it wasn’t nearly enough to prevent Swiatek from seizing control. Swiatek’s serving stats weren’t particularly impressive either, with just 48% of first serves in, but she won 70% of those points and 55% on her second serve.
Regardless, Swiatek was in full command from start to finish, not facing a single break point while converting 3 out of 9 opportunities on Yastremska’s serve, sealing the opening set with a flawless 6-0 bagel.

Yastremska’s nightmare extended into the second set, as Swiatek broke her in the opening game and raced to a 2-0 lead within minutes. The second break came just as swiftly, with Swiatek stringing together 10 consecutive games in her favour.
The Ukrainian showed some resistance towards the end, attempting to target Swiatek’s backhand to push her behind the baseline. The former world No. 1 had to adjust, incorporating defensive lobs to disrupt Yastremska’s rhythm.
Yastremska managed to hold serve for the first time, making it 4-1, but it was merely a consolation. Swiatek quickly wrapped things up, securing a 6-0, 6-2 victory to advance comfortably to the fourth round, where she awaits the winner between 15th seed Karolina Muchova and Katerina Siniakova.
