"The price of success" - Alexandra Eala's uncle clears up schedule concerns as effects of astonishing ascend show

It has been a very busy period for Alexandra Eala, and there is no sign that it is going to stop anytime soon. With her fitness and health being worried over by particular fans after a weary exit in the Canadian Open, her uncle has come forward to address these concerns over the packed schedule she is completing.

Eala has always been one of the most popular players on the WTA Tour since her breakthrough in the Miami Open 2025, and it continues to grow. This is thanks to the Filipina's incredible form. She began this next part of the 2026 campaign in Washington, D.C. In a stacked lineup, she came through all the challengers before defeating the number one seed Jessica Pegula in the final to win the DC Open title, her maiden WTA triumph.

Her positive string of results continued right until she faced Belinda Bencic in the last-16 of the Canadian Open in Toronto. Fatigue looked to be hampering her progress with an ankle problem also a minor talking point. She was bageled in the second set as her seven-match winning streak came to an abrupt end.

She confirmed in her press conference after the defeat that she was going to take a break from tennis ahead of the Cincinnati Open with the tournaments coming thick and fast with any chance of rest and recovery needed to be taken. Especially someone like Eala who has appeared on court so regularly.

All the top players have to compete in a certain number of tournaments every season. Failure to meet these standards in these categories means ranking points deduction and lucrative bonuses not earned. Her uncle, Noli Eala, confirmed that she was trying to abide by the mandated schedule.

"Many are concerned about Alex’s schedule, playing big tour events week after week," he wrote on X. "Fortunately or unfortunately, as a top tier player, Alex is mandated by WTA rules to play all WTA 1000 tournaments plus all Slams in order to total at least 18-20 tournaments per season."

With that said, there is still a lot of tennis to be played for the 21-year-old. "So Canada and Cincinnati are must-play as well as Beijing and Wuhan Open in addition to some WTA 500s. And this does not even account her desire to play for the National Team. The price of success."

On top of all of this, due to Eala's level consistently increasing, the knock-on effect is that she will be playing even more matches as she battles for the biggest tournaments the WTA can offer. It is set to be a first ever trip to Ohio to compete in the Cincinnati before making the return to the location of her first Grand Slam win. Eala will hope to better the second round from last year's US Open at Flushing Meadows before making the trip back to Asia.

Her participation in the Singapore Open just eight days after the US Open is confirmed before back-to-back WTA 1000 events she will be featuring in, more specifically the China Open and Wuhan Open. Whether she plays in any other tournaments is not yet confirmed as she hopes to have a flourishing end to 2026 while keeping fit and healthy in the process.
