Marta Kostyuk has had her say on who the dominant forces in women's tennis are at the moment. The Ukrainian was speaking at the San Diego Open, where she has reached the quarter finals. "For now, for me, it stays the same. It's Iga [Swiatek], Aryna [Sabalenka], [Elena] Rybakina," Kostyuk said.
"I think they are the most consistent anyway." The trio were ranked as the top three in the world, before Coco Gauff replaced Rybakina in third place.
Swiatek is a four-time Grand Slam champion, winning three of those in the last two years, which has preceded Rybakina's historic Wimbledon victory in 2022, while Sabalenka lifted her maiden major in 2023 at the Australian Open - before retaining her title in Melbourne last month.
Olympics factor
As well as the remaining majors to play for, there is also the Olympic Games in Paris later this year, an event all players will have circled on the calendar. However, Kostyuk has warned that with a heavy schedule, fatigue could play its part.
"Yeah, of course. Everyone gets tired. It's a very very difficult calendar, especially this year with the Olympics. But, I think if they are fresh, I think these three but they are not fresh every week, so that's the key."
