A couple of players did not care about anything this year on the WTA Tour doing their own thing and messing up the script of the season.
As with any tennis season, this too had a fairly solid script as to how it was supposed to go. Many thought they knew how things would this year but these players completely spoiled all of it. We begin with Harmony Tan who made herself quite infamous with the win over Serena Williams and her Wimbledon doubles fiasco.
Nobody expected Williams to play only one match at Wimbledon but Tan made sure of it crushing the dreams of Williams and of many other fans. We stay at Wimbledon for the second one. In the year of the Russian players were banned from Wimbledon, a Russian won the trophy. Elena Rybakina, a native Russian climbed to the top by beating Jabeur in the final.
Playing under Kazakhstan's flag Rybakina was able to achieve to the greatest success of her career beating fan favourite Jabeur in the final. Martina Trevisan crushed many dreams a month earlier in Paris by reaching the Roland Garros semi-final. Nobody saw this coming and neither did she as Gauff ended her dream in the semi-final.
We stay at Roland for number four with Ons Jabeur once again in the picture. The Tunisian complained about having to play early on Sunday with very few fans attending and it only got worse when Magda Linette rose up to score her biggest career win that day. Round one exit for Jabeur.
We began with queen Serena and we will finish with her. Her US Open run looked magical with some buzz arising of whether she could do something. It amounted to nothing particular as Ajla Tomljanovic pumped the breaks on those hopes with Williams evolving her way out of Ashe.
