Taylor Townsend has been always highly touted as a player to watch ever seen her prowess in the Juniors but it has never quite happened for her.

She delivered though against Simona Halep is a mesmerising display of Serve and Volley tennis which was a joy to watch. Townsend spoke afterwards that she is so happy to prove people wrong after hearing that she wouldn't make it.
"I've heard it for a really long time that I was never going to make it, that I wasn't going to be able to break through or do this or do that," Townsend told reporters at the US Open. "Sometimes when you were close and you never quite get over it, it's always the word 'talented' or something like that.
"For me, especially over this last year, I've kind of really embraced that, thriving in these kinds of conditions, being able to prove people wrong.
"I've always been that way, but I think I suppressed that side of me for a long time. I've just embraced it and it's like, This is the person I am. I love it. I thrive in these kinds of conditions and I think it showed today."
Townsend added that for her it is further confirmation that she is doing things right and that is especially the case after being through a 'long journey'.
“It's been, like, a really long journey,” Townsend added. “You flood with emotions of the things you've been through, positive, negative.
“It's just confirmation more for myself that I'm on the right path, doing the right things. You keep your head down and keep working and you see what happens.”
