Martina Navratilova recently addressed the accusations of transphobia leveled against her.
The former American tennis player shared her views on transgender athletes and criticized calls for a ban on trans women competing in women's sports. In a Twitter post, she stated that trans athletes should not be completely excluded but should compete based on their biological sex.
“Another disingenuous
piece about trans athletes in sports- nobody is banned- they just need to
compete in the category based on their biological sex, not based on self-id.
Also-lowering testosterone does very little - certainly doesn't level the
playing field - not even close," Navratilova wrote on Twitter.
Martina
Navratilova's comments regarding transgender athletes have faced criticism from
some users who accuse her of being transphobic. Earlier this year, she had
called for a separate category for transgender athletes
"I
think the best idea would be to have 'biological female' and 'biological girls'
categories and then an 'open' category," Navratilova wrote.
"It
would be a category for all-comers: men who identify as men; women who identify
as women; women who identify as men; men who identify as women; non-binary — it
would be a catch-all. This is already being explored in athletics and swimming
in Britain," she added.
